The JSPD Travel Award for Early-Career Investigators from Developing Countries

About the Award

Early-Career Investigators traveling to the IAPD Global Summit from Developing Countries (low income and middle-income economies as defined by the World Bank) are invited to submit their poster presentations for consideration for the prestigious Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry Travel Award.

Funding: The Awards are supported by a fund established by the Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry (JSPD).

Eligibility

To be eligible for the JSPD Award, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Postgraduate student or postdoctoral-level researcher, or a dentist actively engaged in the field of pediatric dentistry.
  • Conduct high-quality clinical or scientific research relevant to pediatric dentistry or closely related disciplines that contribute to child oral health.
  • Reside, study, or practice dentistry in one of the 130 countries listed by the World Bank as low-and- middle-income economies for the current fiscal year, 2025.
  • Maintain current IAPD individual membership status.
  • Preference will be given to early-career investigators. Applicants should normally be within ten (10) years of completion of their most recent advanced academic degree (e.g., postgraduate specialty training, master’s degree, doctoral degree, or equivalent qualification) or postdoctoral training in a field relevant to pediatric dentistry. Equivalent advanced qualifications across international training systems will be considered.
  • Submit an abstract for poster presentation at the upcoming IAPD 4th Global Summit in Barcelona, Spain (mandatory).
  • Complete the online JSPD Application form (after submitting the abstract).
  • Previous recipients of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry (JSPD) Travel Award or any other IAPD Award may reapply only after a minimum interval of three (3) years from the date of receipt of their most recent IAPD Award presented at a Global Summit or Biennial Congress.

Award Rules

  1. Up to two awards, each valued at up to 400,000 JPN (covering airfare, visa up to four nights accommodation, and registration), will be made available for the IAPD 4th Global Summit, Barcelona, Spain (13–15 November 2026). Selection will be determined by the Secretary General and President, based on recommendations from the Awards Committee.
  2. The number of awards for each meeting will be announced in advance in the International in IAPD e-publications.
  3. Applicants must submit their abstracts, research essays, and curriculum vitae via the Meeting website, adhering to all necessary submission guidelines.
  4. The deadline for submission of abstracts, research essays, and curriculum vitae is aligned with the abstract deadline for the Meeting.
  5. The IAPD secretariat will forward travel award applications to the members of the Awards Committee for review.
  6. The Awards Committee will evaluate applications based on the quality of the research essay (including study type, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions), the applicant’s curriculum vitae (including published articles and previous poster presentations), and demonstrated need. In its deliberations, the Committee may also take into account contextual factors, including economic and resource constraints, in order to support equitable access and participation. While scientific merit remains a central consideration, selection decisions will reflect a balanced assessment of both merit and need.
  7. Award decisions will be made four months prior to the Meeting to assist winners in covering their expenses.
  8. Winners of the JSPD Travel Awards will be eligible for the early registration fee for the Meeting.
  9. Winners must acknowledge IAPD support on their presentation materials.
  10. Winners will receive certificates at the closing ceremony.
  11. Reimbursements to awardees will be made via wire transfer after the Meeting.
  12. Any matters not expressly addressed in these rules shall be determined by the IAPD Awards Committee. The Committee’s recommendations shall be submitted to the IAPD President and Secretary General for endorsement and, once endorsed, shall be final. A representative of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry (JSPD) will participate in the Awards Committee’s deliberations and selection process.
