Science, Connection and Collaboration in Taipei

The IAPD participated in the 14th Biennial Congress of the Pediatric Dentistry Association of Asia (PDAA 2026), held from 16–18 October in Taipei, Taiwan. The Congress brought together the paediatric dentistry community to explore the future of the profession through science, innovation and collaboration.

IAPD was represented by President Dr. Soni Stephen, Secretary General Dr. Anna Maria Vierrou and President-Elect Prof. Varinder Goyal, all three of whom were invited speakers during a dedicated IAPD scientific session. Dr. Stephen and Dr. Vierrou also contributed as poster judges.

And there was time for a little fun too! Delegates joined in with the Fluoriders Song, bringing IAPD’s oral-health message to life through music and dance and creating a memorable moment of connection with colleagues from across the region.

Beyond the scientific programme, the Congress provided valuable opportunities to meet IAPD members from across Asia, hear their perspectives and strengthen relationships with regional leaders. The IAPD delegation was warmly welcomed by the PDAA leadership and local organising committee and participated in the Congress’s formal activities.

The visit reinforced the longstanding relationship between IAPD and PDAA and our shared commitment to advancing paediatric dentistry through education, collaboration, leadership and international partnership.

A sincere thank you to the PDAA leadership and organising committee for their wonderful hospitality — and to all our IAPD friends and members who made Taipei such a memorable experience!

🌐Spotlight on IAPD Consensus Recommendations

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the Consensus Recommendation on Minimal Invasive Dentistry.

Focussing on preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible and managing caries with the least invasive approach.

Rather than relying primarily on surgical intervention, this approach places greater emphasis on early caries detection, caries risk assessment and arresting disease progression before more extensive treatment becomes necessary.

The principle is simple: detect early, prevent progression and preserve healthy tooth structure whenever possible.

For paediatric dentistry in particular, this approach can help support long-term oral health while reducing unnecessary intervention for young patients.
