Submit Your Abstract: Submit your abstract via the abstract portal on the IAPD 3rd Global Summitâs website. Ensure you review the abstract guidelines and award rules before submission. Tick the box if you wish to apply for the JSPD Award.
Confirmation Email: After submission, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the JSPD Award online form to submit additional documents. If you do not receive this email, contact Renee Lukin at [email protected] or use the form below to submit the additional documents.
Application Documents: Submit your application documents by June 15, 2024. Applications lacking a confirmed abstract submission will not be considered.Â
(Late JSPD Travel Award submissions will not be accepted).

Maintaining Your IAPD Fellowship

The IAPD Fellowship certificate is a prestigious recognition of your expertise and dedication to the field of paediatric dentistry. To ensure that your knowledge and skills remain current, the Fellowship certificate is valid for five years, after which a renewal process must be completed. Hereâs what you need to know to maintain and renew your IAPD Fellowship.
At the end of the five-year period, you will need to undergo a renewal process to extend your Fellowship certificate. This renewal involves completing a study module focused on the latest updates in paediatric dentistry, accompanied by a quiz. This ensures that all fellows are up-to-date with current practices and innovations in the field. Importantly, you will not be required to retake the fellowship exam, provided you successfully complete the maintenance programme.
Throughout the five-year period, it is essential to comply with the following maintenance requirements:
- Annual Continuing Education: Provide proof of ongoing education in paediatric dentistry each year. This ensures that you remain knowledgeable about the latest advancements and best practices.
- Maintenance Fee: Pay the required maintenance fee annually. This fee supports the administrative processes and the continuous development of the Fellowship programme.
- Active IAPD Membership: Maintain your active membership with the IAPD. Being an active member not only helps you stay connected with the global paediatric dentistry community but also grants you access to valuable resources and updates.

đSpotlight on IAPD Consensus Recommendations
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the Consensus Recommendation on Pulp Therapy for Primary and Young Permanent Teeth. When it comes to our little onesâ teeth, pulp therapy is all about keeping them in tip-top shape until they naturally fall out. For those slightly older kids with their first set of permanent teeth, the aim is to keep the tooth’s pulp alive and well, allowing the roots to grow strong and sturdy. This helps ensure the teeth stay functional and secure for years to come.
The type of pulp therapy needed depends on the condition of the pulp: healthy, reversible pulpitis, irreversible pulpitis, or necrosis. Here’s how we figure it out:
- Medical and Dental History: We look into past health and dental records.
- Pain History: We ask about the painâwhere it is, how strong it is, if it comes on its own, how long it lasts, and what makes it better or worse.
- Clinical Signs: We check for visible signs inside and outside the mouth.
- X-Rays: We take a close look at the crowns, roots, and surrounding bone.
- Pulp Testing (for permanent teeth): We use electric pulp testing, cold tests, and heat tests to check the pulp’s health.
Getting the diagnosis right is key because it shapes the treatment plan and the chances of success.
Hereâs a quick look at the types of pulp therapy:
- Vital Pulp Therapy: For teeth with living pulp, we might use Indirect Pulp Therapy (IPT), Direct Pulp Capping (DPC), or a pulpotomy.
- Non-Vital Pulp Therapy: For teeth where the pulp isn’t alive, treatments include pulpectomy or lesion sterilisation and tissue repair (LSTR).
With the right approach, we can keep those young smiles bright and healthy!
