The IAPD is proud to announce that the Bengt Magnusson Memorial Prize in Child Dental Health is sponsored by Kids-e-Dental, a brand that has become synonymous with excellence, care, and innovation in paediatric dentistry.
This prestigious award is presented in memory of Professor Bengt Magnusson of Göteborg, Sweden, one of the founders of Paediatric Dentistry and a dedicated member of the IAPD until his passing in 1981. Awarded on alternate years at the IAPD Congress, it recognises the best submitted essay on a topic relevant to child dental health — a tribute to Professor Magnusson’s lifelong commitment to advancing paediatric oral care.
For Kids-e-Dental, paediatric dentistry is not just a business; it’s an emotion. Their products are designed with children in mind, ensuring that every child’s dental experience is as positive and effective as possible. 🌐Spotlight on IAPD Consensus Recommendations
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the Consensus Recommendation on Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART).
Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) is a minimally invasive procedure designed to manage carious lesions with minimal discomfort. The technique involves the gentle removal of decayed tissue using hand instruments, without the need for local anaesthesia or electrically powered equipment. Treatment is completed by placing a glass ionomer cement or other restorative material.
Initially developed for use in communities with little access to piped water, electricity, and oral healthcare services, ART has proven highly effective, particularly in regions with limited financial resources. It has also been adopted more widely to manage cases of severe early childhood caries by leveraging the fluoride-releasing properties of glass ionomer cements, helping to arrest the progression of decay.
Systematic studies have demonstrated that ART, when performed using high-viscosity glass ionomer cement, provides reliable results for single-surface restorations in both primary and permanent molars. It is now recognised as an appropriate treatment option for managing dental caries, particularly single-surface cavities in primary and permanent teeth.
