The IAPD mourns the loss of two valued Honorary Members who passed away in recent months, both leaving an indelible mark on paediatric dentistry and our Association.
The IAPD community extends its heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues. Their legacies will continue to inspire us in our mission to promote children’s oral health worldwide.
Professor Yoshida was a visionary leader whose contributions shaped the foundations of the IAPD. Chairing the 1991 Kyoto Congress, he oversaw the transition from the IADC to the IAPD, a milestone in our history. Serving as IAPD President from 1993 to 1995, he provided calm and thoughtful leadership, laying the groundwork for future growth. In 1999, he was named an Honorary Member in recognition of his extraordinary service. He will be remembered for his humility, graciousness, and global vision.
A pioneer in paediatric dentistry, Assoc. Prof. Hall served for almost four decades as Director of Dentistry at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, and inspired countless students as a teacher and visiting professor worldwide. Internationally recognised for his pioneering descriptions of developmental dental and craniofacial syndromes, he also served as IAPD President in 1985 and co-authored the first IAPD Congress Guidelines. Named an Honorary Member in 1993, he will be remembered for his vision, scholarship, and humanity.
The IAPD is thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our fellows who successfully completed their examinations in 2025. Their dedication and commitment to continuing education have truly paid off!
The full list of Fellows are on IAPD’s Website.
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the Consensus Recommendation on the Nitrous oxide inhalation in Pediatric Dentistry.
Nitrous oxide/oxygen (N₂O/O₂) is a widely used inhalation agent with anxiolytic, sedative and analgesic effects, offering muscular relaxation with minimal impact on the respiratory system. It induces central nervous system depression and euphoria, making it a safe and effective option when used judiciously. For children, it can reduce anxiety, discomfort and pain, while enhancing cooperation and communication between patient and clinician.
Nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation sedation is a safe and effective anxiolytic technique in paediatric dentistry when applied responsibly, following local regulations and global best practice standards.
